WORKPRO
WHAT? A “how to get the job” program hosted by career coaches and employment experts, covering topics like resume writing, where to find employment, referrals to community resources to help reach personal career goals, networking, and more. The sessions are conducted in Arabic with English Translation provided as needed. Women are welcome to participate in other government-funded programs available within the community without any conflicts.
WHEN? WorkPro sessions are held in 4 week sessions with scheduled classes. Participants attend on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. (There are additional drop-in sessions or guest speakers that are also available.)
WHERE? In consideration of the pandemic and the current state of public health, sessions are held virtually on Zoom. Participants are provided with session links after signing up.
WHO? This program is designed for Arab and Arabic-Speaking women aged 20 and above, residing in Waterloo Region or Guelph, who are encountering difficulties in finding employment in Canada or would like valuable insights as they navigate their professional lives. It is open to those who have completed or are in the process of completing post-secondary education.
WHY? Many Arab women, particularly refugees, immigrants, and newcomers, struggle to find employment whether due to a lack of “Canadian experience”, language barriers, or not knowing where to look. CAWA aims to bridge these gaps and help women along their journey of becoming productive members of Canadian society and unlocking their full potential in the workforce.
Testimonials
Not only is it free, but it’s the first program that didn’t ask me whether or not I have a PR.
Resumes and cover letters are so different in Canada! Now I know the importance of structure and crafting cover letters to grab the employer’s attention.
The Program being in Arabic was an important factor in my choice to sign up.
