OUR FUNDERS

WHY ARAB WOMEN?

Arab women face unique obstacles in Canada. Along with facing gender-based discrimination, Arab women can find it difficult finding accessible resources and programs because of things like language barriers, culture shock and cultural differences, and simply not knowing where to find them. That’s why CAWA is committed to providing barrier-free and culturally sensitive programming to Arab women in our communities and connecting them with relevant local resources and services.

CAWA works tirelessly to meet the needs of the membership, responding quickly to requests made by the group, supporting families, and promoting a community of well-being. I am proud to be associated with them.

Helen Basson, CAWA volunteer

Because of my involvement with CAWA, I was able to cope with change as a newcomer. CAWA held my hand and helped me navigate my new life in Canada.

Lamees Oraby, CAWA program participant

Thanks to CAWA’s educational sessions on financial literacy, the English language, business, parenthood and personal development, I feel that I was given the needed space to focus on my own development.

Sarah Saab, CAWA program participant

I was inspired everyday to grow and work on my personal development by the Arab women I met at CAWA.

Ghofran Mohamad, CAWA program participant

Unlike any other newcomer service I’ve been involved with, CAWA allowed me to feel a connection to other Arab women as part of a community. I was able to relate to them. This is mainly because CAWA’s support is often available in Arabic which is really important to me.

Ghada Mansour, CAWA program participant

CAWA helped me to the safe side, because of CAWA I now understand my rights in Canada. I understand that I have the right to live here. They did all the efforts to help me reach social services in Canada. Today I’m a free woman, today I’m a safe woman with my full rights to be in this country without worrying about getting deported because of my ex-husband. Today I’m safe with my kids around me. If there is anything more than words to thank all the staff of CAWA, I would do it.
